Southwest Airlines has some good news for its flight attendants. They are offering a new contract that will make the flight attendants very happy. They will get more money in the coming years.
Pay Going Up by 36%
In this new contract, the flight attendants will see their pay go up by a total of 36% over the next five years. That’s a big increase, and it’s sure to make the flight attendants feel really good.
First, a Big 20% Raise
To start things off, they will get a 20% raise in January when they sign the contract. That’s a nice way to begin the new agreement.
More Raises Coming
The good news doesn’t stop there. After the first 20% raise, they will get an extra 3% raise. Plus, they will also get more money going back to late 2019. This means they will get the money they missed out on in the past few years.
Approval Needed
The new contract isn’t official just yet. It has to be approved by the flight attendants’ union members. They will start voting on this new agreement in mid-November. So, it’s not done until they say it’s okay.
Better Pay for On-Call Flight Attendants
This new deal is also good for on-call flight attendants. They will get an 8% pay increase, which is a nice bonus. If they have to work outside of their regular schedule, they will get extra money for that too.
Fixing Old Problems
Flight attendants and pilots have been talking about problems with their schedules and getting assignments, especially when things go wrong during travel. These problems were really clear when Southwest had a lot of trouble at the end of 2022. This new contract tries to fix some of those problems.
Pilots Are Still Talking
This is great news for flight attendants. But the talks with pilots are still happening. So, there could be more good news coming for them too.
Southwest Airlines didn’t say anything about this yet, but for flight attendants, this news is a reason to smile.
